A Returns Address Is a Freight Decision, Not a Service One

A returns address is a freight decision, not a customer-service one. A China-shipping seller must decide where a returned unit physically goes before listing an item, because by the time a buyer cancels the second journey is fixed.

Key facts behind the decision.

  • Shenzhen Shibotong International Logistics Co., Ltd., trading as SBT FulfillDock, works across 24,000 m² in three Chinese warehouses: 3,000 m² at Shenzhen, 13,000 m² at Suzhou and 8,000 m² at Dongguan, as at 2026-10-28.
  • Its overseas points - Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom, alongside Los Angeles and New York - are outbound shipping points worked with in-country clearance partners, not return destinations.
  • China-side, a unit that physically arrives is counted, re-labelled, re-packed and re-inspected; an exception is assigned to someone within 2 hours and closed within 24, both internal targets.
  • No destination returns address exists in any market, and no reverse logistics after delivery is offered.

Four return situations are four different journeys

These four situations are not one operation: only a buyer-initiated cancellation can reach China inside a useful window; the rest settle where the parcel landed.

Return situationWhat physically happensWhere it ends
Buyer cancels inside the distance-sale windowThe buyer posts the unit to the address on the listing; no overseas point opens it, so the refund clock runs regardless.A domestic address you arrange, or China as a fresh entry.
Damaged or wrong item sentReplacement beats recovery: a new order is picked in China with its own label.Written down in market; the replacement ships from China.
One unsold unit at end of seasonNothing travels. Stock in our Chinese network stays shelved; stock abroad stays put.A Chinese warehouse floor, or a cost accepted in market.
Delivery attempt failsThe channel sets the order: redelivery, a hold, then the sender of record on the manifest. The carrier's return-to-sender route, so a sender block is freight planning.

A destination returns address is a second customs entry

A unit leaving an overseas customer and returning to China is a second border crossing rather than a continuation of the first shipment. It is declared again on its own papers, and the treatment applied on entry does not automatically travel with it. Where a customs authority offers relief for re-imported goods, it is conditional and bounded by a window, judged against the state the goods arrive in. We file declarations as the shipper's authorised agent, not as an importer of returned goods in any market. Nothing here is legal advice.

The consumer-law clock is what makes this freight

Withdrawal rules set the deadline. UK government guidance for sellers says a customer must be told they can cancel an online or distance order up to 14 days after delivery, and that a customer never told can cancel at any time in the following twelve months; the buyer then has 14 further days to return the goods, and the refund falls due within 14 days of it coming back. Directive 2011/83/EU (Official Journal L 304, 17 November 2011) sets a 14-day withdrawal period for Union distance contracts and lets the trader hold the refund until the goods are received or proof of return is produced. Who carries the postage turns on what was disclosed before the order was confirmed, so read each market's current rule. A refund clock in weeks cannot be served by a journey in months.

Marketplace programmes set their own address rule

Some marketplace programmes condition local selling on an in-country return address for domestic buyers, and require it before a listing goes live. That is a fact about the programme's terms, not any forwarder's network. Read the current text on two points: whether the address must be domestic, and whether a platform-run returns scheme exists for you. Where an address is needed that we do not hold, the routes are the platform's own programme or a domestic returns operator you contract; SBT FulfillDock is neither.

The economics of the second journey, without a number

For a single low-value unit, sending goods back to China rarely makes sense: a second freight leg, a second customs process, a fresh goods-in count and a re-pack weigh against a unit worth less than those steps. The honest question is whether the goods are worth the second journey, and three tests settle it: is the unit resalable once opened, does the SKU still have a season left, do the goods move as a batch that spreads fixed handling? Units failing them are the case for disposal on written instruction: goods written down or destroyed against your instruction, with a record kept. Compensation is measured against the value declared when the booking was made. We publish no rate card: a quote is cut lane by lane from the carton's size and weight, its cargo type and where it is going.

Our limits, and the work we do instead

Return disputes begin where expectation meets network, so here are our limits. No destination returns address exists in any market. Customer goods are not received at our overseas points, which are outbound shipping points with in-country clearance partners, and quality inspection abroad is not offered. We do not buy stock on your behalf, and no reverse logistics after delivery is promised once a parcel leaves our network. What we do is China-side: a unit that physically arrives at one of the three warehouses is counted, re-labelled, re-packed and re-inspected before it rejoins sellable stock, as set out on our services page. None of this applies to supplier-direct parcels that never reach our docks, to pallets and B2B consignments, to regulated categories with recall rules, or to any market's consumer law. Liability terms sit on our liability and compensation page, and current intake addresses come from the contact us page.

Frequently asked questions

Do you provide a returns address in the United States, Europe or the United Kingdom?

A returns address in the United States, Europe or the United Kingdom is not something we provide in any market. Our overseas points there are outbound shipping points working with in-country clearance partners, so nothing is arranged to take in a buyer's parcel. If a marketplace programme needs a domestic address, that is an in-country arrangement you make.

Is sending a returned item back to China ever worth the freight?

A returned item back to China is worth the freight when goods travel as a batch with a season left to sell, and rarely when it is one low-value parcel. You pay a second journey, a second customs entry and a fresh warehouse operation to recover one piece. Disposal on written instruction, with a record kept, is the alternative we can carry out China-side.

What happens to a customer return that reaches your Chinese warehouse?

A customer return that reaches one of our three Chinese warehouses is treated like any inbound line: counted against the packing list, photographed, opened and re-inspected, then re-labelled and re-packed if it can travel again. Accepted units rejoin sellable stock; a damaged line opens an exception, owned by someone within 2 hours and closed within 24.

Reviewed 2026-10-28 (28 October 2026). The 24,000 m² three-city split, the 2 and 24 hour exception clocks and the rule that our overseas points take no customer returns are this site's own parameters on that date. The legal boundaries are public instruments read that day: UK government guidance on online and distance selling and on accepting returns; the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, regulation 34; Directive 2011/83/EU, Official Journal L 304. Those set the clocks; the limits above are ours. Consumer rules and marketplace programmes change without notice, so re-read them and take a written view from the clearance partner on the customs question.
